REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY 2008
Sunday 9th November 2008 saw the Royal British Legion commemorate the end of World War I, II and other wars at Louth's annual Remembrance Sunday event. A Wreath Laying service took place at Louth War Memorial from 10.30am and the Mayor, Councillor Francis W.P. Treanor laid a Wreath on behalf of Louth Town Council. Canon Stephen Holdaway gave a short sermon at the War Memorial aided by Councillor Gus Robertson, the President of the Royal British Legion Louth Branch who said the Eulogy. A two minute silence was observed and this provided a unique opportunity for us to reflect on lives lost during all the Wars in which this country has fought. Those assembled then paraded to St. James’ Church for Divine Service given by Canon Stephen Holdaway. Public support was magnificent and it went a long way to making the event more memorable. Louth Town Council would like to thank the British Legion Louth Branch, the Team Parish of Louth, the drummers, the bugler, all those parading uniformed services and all the youngsters who were in attendance as their participation made the event the reverent and honourable occasion that the brave servicemen and women who gave their lives for this Country deserve. WE WILL REMEMBER THEM
